Moving Diaries: A Few Tips for a Smooth Move

It was SO bittersweet leaving Utah, but we are so excited for this new chapter that is in front of us. I couldn’t leave our Utah house without snapping one more family photo inside. ❤️

Chase and I are finally settled in SC and we love it here! With that being said…Let’s just say that moving is NOT my favorite thing to do. In fact, I always really dread it. It just takes up so much time, it’s hard and the packing process is the worst! If only there were quick and easy ways to speed up your move and then forget about the process after. Wouldn’t that be great?! I think so. Well, after a few moves of our own, I have figured out a few ways to speed up the moving process (but it still requires work). I thought it would be helpful to share a few of my best tips with all of you!

Pack Up The Hardest Room First

Always tackle the hardest room first. The reason for this is because if you are dreading a certain room or space in your home, you will keep putting it off until the very last minute and that will put a lot of unnecessary stress on you. When you get the worst out of the way first, you are more inclined to finish the rest of your home because you feel accomplished, motivated, and ready to take on the rest of your home. The hardest rooms for me are always my closet and our kitchen! In addition to starting with the hardest room, I also always recommend starting early. Start packing and cleaning before you actually need to. That way, on the day of the move, it can be as stress-free as possible. We slowly started packing things up about a month before the big day! Peep the photo below of my adorable little helper. 🙂

Set A Timer

If you are having a hard time getting motivated to actually pack and/or clean, setting a timer can help a lot. This not only will force you to get the work done, but it will make you get the work done faster, instead of dilly-dallying and putting it off. I take advantage of this method in all aspects of my life (incorporate it into your work day and you will see how beneficial it is!), but when you use it for packing and cleaning, things will speed up and motivate you along the process.

Utilize A Professional Moving Team

When it comes down to it, the best way to speed up your move is by hiring it out to professionals. Chase and I realized this early on in our last move! This obviously saves a lot of time, but in ways aside from only on moving day. Professional movers, such as Movin’, can save you time during the entire process – from packing, to moving, unpacking, and everything in between. They usually have connections to other companies like cleaning companies, they can help with storage, and they will potentially save you money, effort, and time too. A great company should be able to help you with any type of move – local, long distance, or even something like Salt Lake City commercial moving.

Don’t Wait To Unpack

When you do get into your home, do not wait to unpack or you will never get around to it! Instead, start unpacking from day one. Once you get everything out of the boxes, it will make putting away your items that much easier because you can actually see the progress happening with your own eyes. This was something we tried to do because it also makes your new house feel like a home once YOUR items are in it!

There are so many tips and tricks when it comes to speeding up the moving process. Do you have any extra easy tips to speed up your move? I would love to hear about them!

As always, thanks for stopping by!
